PROMOTION AND PROMOTION ACTIVITIES   May 2008

The culminating activities in June are designed to celebrate the promotion of our eighth grade students. As these activities draw near, we would like to remind you of the following important information.

PARTICIPATION IN PROMOTION ACTIVITIES In order to participate in the eighth grade promotion activities at the end of the year, a student must earn satisfactory grades in achievement, citizenship, and work habits on all report cards, beginning with the first quarter report card. The specific requirements are outlined below:

Failing Grades/Mandatory Intervention Program
• Students who earned an F on any quarter or semester report card were expected to attend 3.0 hours of school intervention programs a week. Hours should have been logged on an intervention card that was turned in to the counselor on a regular basis.
• Students who completed the mandatory intervention program will be allowed to participate in all promotion activities, including the Magic Mountain trip.
• Students who failed to complete the program will not be allowed to participate in the promotion ceremony and all related activities.
• Students who were required to attend the intervention program were notified multiple times by letters home and meetings at school.
Other Requirements
• Students who receive a total of five or more U marks/grades in citizenship on the first quarter report card, first semester report card, and the third quarter report card will be excluded from promotion and all related activities. Tardies to homeroom/class influence a student's citizenship grade. Students with five or more tardies in homeroom/class will receive a U mark.
• Students who receive two or more home suspensions will be excluded from promotion and all related activities.
• Students must be clear from all financial obligations to the school. If a student owes for books or cafeteria charges, they will receive a notice of financial obligation and not a certificate of promotion at the ceremony on June 20, 2008. The certificate of promotion will be given to the student once the financial obligations are fulfilled.
• Any case that involves special circumstances may be reviewed by a faculty committee.
