Students need to complete the Snowman worksheet. Students MUST write equations as that is what we are trying to learn. Parents - please check to see that your child has completed the Writing and Solving Equations worksheet and checked their equations and answers online. Writing equations is difficult at this age so if students are only trying to find answers (without writing an equation) they are avoiding what I am trying to teach them. We will have our first quick check on Solving Equations and Inequalities on Feb 2nd/3rd.

I apologize for not updated the website with homework for the passed week. Here are the keys for the homework assignments that should be completed.

Students need to study for their test on percents on Thursday/Friday. Attached is the key to the homework called "Percent Review" as well as additional study resources (Totem Pole, Percent of change worksheet and goal problems key).

Period 1 needs to do complete 5 problems on the Interest worksheet and problems 4 and 7 on the commission worksheet. This is what is mandatory. I suggest that kids complete both of these pages before their test next week.
 
Period 3 needs to complete the goal problems and correct their answers using the key. The most important thing is that they find their errors and see if they can fix them after they have corrected the goal problems. Are the errors conceptual (you don't know the concept and need extra help) or procedural (you are making calculation errors or silly mistakes and you need to slow down or check your work). Period 3 students should also make sure to complete both of the attached worksheets before their test a week from today.
 
Period 4 needs to complete the pink and blue sheets for homework.

The book has a lot of good Pythagorean Theorem problems (course 3, vol 2) starting on page 411. 
 
Their quick check on Pythagorean Theorem will be on Thursday/Friday October 6th and 7th.

Students need to research Pythagoras and jot down 5 facts to share in class on Monday. Students also need to choose another mathematician and jot down 5 more facts. This should have been done in class after they finished their test unless they didn't have time.
 
We are starting Pythagorean Theorem next.

For extra practice kids can continue with the pink sheet, work on the blue sheet (attached), work on problems in the book (course 3, volume 1, starting on page 71). Kids should also use their goal problems as a study took. They can try the problems again on a separate sheet of paper. The emphasis is on Irrational numbers - knowing how to approximate square roots using perfect squares and being able to put rational and irrational numbers in order and locate them on a number line (see learning targets). Also, the square roots scavenger hunt is attached.

Students need to memorize the first 20 perfect squares and the first 10 perfect cubes by Monday. Students also have a worksheet on irrational numbers to complete. Worksheet and answers attached. # 11 should be 2.8.
 
Test scores are in Aeries and will be passed back this week. Students will have a chance to test on CC1 again at the quarter and the semester. Defenses replace previous or current grades. More information will be posted closer to the end of the quarter and semester. I am very please with our scores for CC1 overall!

Students need to make flashcards for the first 20 perfect squares and first 10 perfect cubes so that they can memorize them by Monday. All the information is in their notes.
 
Scores from our first quick check will be posted on Aeries as soon as all students take the test. I am hoping to post grades and give back papers by Thursday/Friday of this week.

Thank you for a great first week! There is no homework over the weekend except to try and get the recommended supplies for class - dry erase markers, felt or sock for eraser, binder/dividers, paper, pencils and pens. Please bring the composition book I gave you to class every day.
 
We will be continuing exponent rules next week and then move to scientific notation.
 
We are scheduled to pick up textbooks next Tuesday/Wednesday and I will be handing out learning targets on Monday.
