Assignment

We have been working on the Theme Story Project in class, but if you need more time, here is the assignment so that you can work on it at home.

I will be giving you all of Monday, September 19th to finish writing your Theme Story. If you feel like you cannot complete the assignment by then, please work on it this weekend.

Due:

Assignment

  • Every month students are to read a different school appropriate book that is at least 100 pages that is interesting to them. It can be fiction (of the author’s imagination) or non-fiction (real facts).
  • Each week they are to write a 10 sentence summary about what they read that week. This will be due every Thursday/Friday until the end of the school year. They should be able to bring this book to school so that they can read it when they are done with a class assignment. This will start the first week of October.
  • I don’t plan on giving much homework other than this because this act alone is so important . It will help them to raise their reading level by  the end of the school year. I want them to gain the habit of reading for pleasure at home. This is something life-long learners do.
  • If you ask them, “Do you have homework for Ms. Capillo?” The response should be, “Yes. I need to read my book and write my summary for the week.” They should be reading for at least 30 minutes each day to help them raise their reading level.
Their October book needs to be chosen by 9/12. They need to start bringing it to school on 10/3.

10/6 and 10/7 is when Summary HW 1 will be due for their October book. In 10 sentences, they need to summarize what they have read that week. How much is read that week is based on the student.

Assignment

Lexile scores were posted on Aeries. They determine students reading level. We want to move them up a grade level by the end of the year which is why it is so important that they read for at least 30 minutes at home each day a book of their choosing that is school appropriate.

Assignment

Hi!
If you missed Back to School Night, here is my Powerpoint.

Due:

Assignment

In the attachment you will find the sensory language, precise language, and simile descriptive paragraph assessment that will be given on  9/6 and 9/7 during class. If you will be absent on those days, please turn in the assignment within 2 weeks.

There will be no homework the week of 9/5 due to the fact that students are being assessed on descriptive language on 9/6 and 9/7 for a grade and students will be given an Argumentative Essay on 9/8 and 9/9 they will have to write that all Language Arts teachers are giving  so that we know their skill level at the beginning of the school year. The argumentative essay will not be counted as a grade. It will be counted towards their classwork grade based on completion of the assignment and not on the quality of the work produced because we have not taught this concept yet.

Sincerely,
Ms. Capillo
