Note: I suggest you get the required summer reading assignment done before the summer that way you can relax and not think about school over the summer.

The final draft of your graphic novel is due inside of the hardback book.

In the link you will find Egyptian mythology.

-Read 1 myth or mythic character description from the online list. You may choose from African mythology, South American mythology, Chinese mythology, Greek mythology, Egyptian mythology, and Native American mythology

-Complete ALL the questions in the protagonist/character profile for the hero of your graphic novel. Your graphic novel will be based on mythology from the culture of your choosing. 

-On 5/30 and 6/1 in class, you will be developing the plot and drawings of your graphic novel that are based off of the mythology you read. Please bring special drawing supplies if you want to.

There is no November book to read independently. Instead, students will be assigned to read particular chapters of The Watsons Go to Birmingham-1963 at home. We will start to read the book in class on Thursday. They will be assigned to read chapters of it at home towards the end of the month. 

 

 

If you have not read Chapter 3 of The Watsons go to Birmingham-1963 when I was absent for a meeting on 11/17, then you need to read Chapter 3. 

 

We will be reading Chapters 4-5 on 11/22.

Due on 11/8 at the end of class, students will need to complete the 5 Minute Story in class and then they will need to complete the checklist for it. The rubric and the checklist are in the attachment. If they feel like they are behind, they need to work on their story outside of class.

-You will be reading 1 book a month starting in October. Choose your October book by this date and start reading it. You may choose any school appropriate book that is at least 100 pages long.

If you missed Back to School Night, here is my Powerpoint.

 

In the attachment you will find the sensory language, precise language, and simile descriptive paragraph assessment that will be given on  9/6 and 9/7 during class. If you will be absent on those days, please turn in the assignment within 2 weeks.

 

There will be no homework the week of 9/5 due to the fact that students are being assessed on descriptive language on 9/6 and 9/7 for a grade and students will be given an Argumentative Essay on 9/8 and 9/9 they will have to write that all Language Arts teachers are giving  so that we know their skill level at the beginning of the school year. The argumentative essay will not be counted as a grade. It will be counted towards their classwork grade based on completion of the assignment and not on the quality of the work produced because we have not taught this concept yet.
