Students will revise/edit the Compare/Contrast essay on Greasers and Socs from novel "The Outsiders."

 

Students should read two Kids A-Z books from 11/11 - 11/14.  Due 11/15

Students will turn in Book Orders.

 

Students will re-read scripts with more fluency of Chapter 2 of "The Outsiders."

 

Students will begin watching movie "The Outsiders," to be continued on 11/10.

Students will complete Language Arts notebook in class.

 

Students will create a new word using 3 of the Roots Level 1 word parts & write definition to go with new word.   

 

Students will practice and read script of Chapter 2 of "The Outsiders."   Homework is to read two books and complete quizzes on Kids A - Z.

Students need to read at least two (2) books on Kids A-Z from 10/28 - 10/30/16.   Students should read books AND complete quizzes on books.

Students will receive Permission Slip to watch movie "The Outsiders," due on 11/3/16. Students will read Achieve 3000 article, "Comic-Con Brings Fans Together."  They will answer Activity questions with goal of 75%, and write a Thought Question answer using one of the four Text Connections: Text to Self, Text to World, Text to Text, or Text to Media. Students will create Literature Notebook, to be continued throughout week. 

Students will complete in-class a chart with examples of words containing the Level 1 Roots. 

Students will listen to and read aloud Chapter 1 of "The Outsiders."   Students will use:  http://esl-bits.net/ESL.English.Learning.Audiobooks/Outsiders/01/default.html

and read out loud themselves. 

Students will read Chapter one of "The Outsiders."

Students will ask for prefixes and suffixes.  They will ask every person in class, writing down their names and prefixes, with word examples.

Students will self-correct "Roots Level 1" pre-test done for homework.

 

Students will complete list of words containing these Level 1 Roots.  

 

Class will read together the introduction to "The Outsiders," and receive own copy of book to take home.  

Students will turn in 1 paragraph describing the differences between life in the 1950's and life today.   They will use their own prior knowledge AND what they saw from watching excerpts from the movie "Grease."

Students will watch trailer for movie "The Martian" and discuss.   Students will review with partners their Synonyms and Antonyms 2 list on Quizlet to prepare for competition tomorrow.   Quiz #1 will be Thursday, 10/27. 

Students will work in pairs to complete activity using common prefixes and suffixes. 

Students need to turn in SIGNED permission slip for Library Field Trip (on Monday, 10/24) AND signed library card application.  

Students will work in small groups with the teacher to discuss the phrase "coming of age" and how it relates to them and to our upcoming novel, "The Outsiders."

Students will take their first SRI (Reading comprehension) test of the school year.  

Students will read Achieve 3000 article, "Don't Speak Out."  They will answer Activity questions with goal of 75%, and write a Thought Question answer using one of the four Text Connections: Text to Self, Text to World, Text to Text, or Text to Media.

Student groups will present their assigned fable - they will retell the story using S-W-T-B-S, include 3-5 vocabulary words and definitions, and the theme and evidence for theme using S-L-I-M-E.

Students will be assigned an Aesop's Fable to read and present to class.  Students will listen to all fables in book, and choose ONE that best represents a lesson they've learned themselves once in life. 

Students will read, annotate and discuss the fable, "House of 1,000 Mirrors." Students will practice using S.L.I.M.E. Cornell notes to determine the theme of the story.  

Students will get their parents to fill out & sign the last two pages of the class syllabus.

Students will complete an essay stating their opinion on plastic water bottles being sold in schools.  They will use evidence from 2 articles, given to them on 9/1/16.

Students will use their SUMMER READING notes and book to write an in-class paragraph about the theme of the book.
