Students have taken the January 2018 SRI Test. This test measures students' vocabulary knowledge. If a student has performed below a 925 Lexile score, he/she has been stamped for PAWS once a week for the remainder of the school year in order to raise his/her vocabulary knowledge. Students should be at 970 Lexile by the end of the school year. If they are above this score, it's great!

For the next two months, we will be reading this book and doing connected HW with this book. If you are a fast reader, bring an independent reading book to class. You are only required to read this book and not an independent reading book for the next two months.

You should have read at least 1 book or 100 pages of a book by 10/2  during the month of September. Every month, you need to be reading 1 book or at least 100 pages of  a book. This is the case for the rest of the school year. The book can be fiction or non-fiction and it needs to be school appropriate. You should read something that is very interesting to you. It can be connected to a skill you want to develop or a concept you want to learn more about. 
 
Students read their independent reading book 5 minutes a day in class at the start of class. They are then responsible for reading the remaining pages of the book at home. 
 
If your book is 100 pages long and you have 4 weeks to read the book, then you should be reading at least 25 pages a week. 
 
If you finish the book early, let's say two weeks before the end of the month, then you need to get a new book to read because you are reading in class each day. 
 
This assignment is intended to be at your reading pace so if you can read five books a month, go for it.

Starting on 9/7 or 9/8, please bring a school appropriate reading book to class that you will read at the beginning of class.
 
It can be fiction or non-fiction. If you are reading a fiction book, it should be at least 100 pages. A graphic novel is acceptable. If you are in honors, you should then read multiple graphic novels a month if you go the graphic novel route.
 
You can read the same book as a friend. I suggest you get a library book. It cannot be on your phone. A Kindle reader is fine. Every month, you will be expected to read 1 independent reading book. It will be read in class and at home.
