Honors Information

CCMS offers Honors English Language Arts (ELA) in grades 6, 7, and 8.  Students who have consistently shown great strength in reading and writing are encouraged to take Honors.  Our ELA honors classes are open access--this means that any student may take honors English.  Students in Honors should expect to read higher level books, read/write independently, work at a deeper complexity level, and work at a faster pace.  If you have questions about Honors English, please speak to your child's English teacher or school counselor.

For 8th grade students who are highly interested and show aptitude for Science, CCMS also offers Biology Honors.  This course is taken at Culver City HS during Zero Period (7:00-8:00 a.m. Monday - Friday).  Students are eligible to take this course if they meet the following criteria:
  • Overall 3.75 GPA
  • All As (no A-s) in Science in grades 6 and 7
  • Teacher recommendation from his/her previous Science teacher

Students who sign up for Honors courses must sign the letter of commitment found on this page.
