ANNUAL CCMS HOMELESS DRIVE

We are collecting items for our annual Homeless Drive! Starting on April 15th until April 26th, we will be collecting the following items. For every item donated, you will receive one raffle ticket. At the end of the 2 weeks, we will be raffling off amazing prizes, like yearbooks, 8th grade Magic Mountain tickets, 7th grade Knott’s Berry Farm tickets, CCMS gear, and other awesome prizes. 

Please find your grade level and donate from the list:

  • Small packets of tissues


Drop your items off before school or during lunch in front of 2nd hall to receive your raffle ticket. The grade level that donates the most items will win a prize for THE WHOLE GRADE!

Dear students and families,
 
The mosque visit was such a joy!  But for those that were unable to join, attached you will find the two final extra credit opportunities for the semester.  They are NOT closely related to topics covered in class, but they can be studied through a social science lense.  The movies are good, but require parental consent.  (They are both rated PG)  I recommend that a parent watch the movie first and decide if it is the right choice for his/her student (or at least read the reviews and recommendations).
 
I am considering having a viewing party this Friday at 2pm in my classroom (for McFarland, USA).  Please let me know if you would be interested so I can decide if it makes sense.  If there's enough interest I will let you know and please make sure to have your student come with a signed handout.
 
The semester ends this Friday, but I get a few days in January to submit grades so I will accept these extra credit assignments on Monday, January 7.  (One per student)

Lastly, I want to say thank you for an amazing semester of hard work and for all your generosity.  I am so grateful to say that this year I've had to buy zero boxes of kleenex and I still have some color paper to print on!!  Also, thank you for all your support, honesty and kindness.  I have an amazing group of 7th graders and awesome parents behind the scenes.  
 
Special thanks for all the little extras, your holiday wishes and presents, allowing kiddos to work at your home on group projects, sharing delicious pan de muertos, teaching the traditions of Hanukkah in the classroom, sharing your books and resources on Islam and West Africa with me.  And all the other things I know I am missing, but that I am truly grateful for!!  I am really lucky to work with you all.

Please read the following directions carefully if you would like to retake the Byzantine Empire/Rise of Christianity test.
 
You must complete all the steps before the test.
 
1.  You will need to reflect on the test and express your intent to retake the test.  (Para empezar 11/6 & 11/7)  If it is not a thorough reflection you will not be able to retake.
 
2.  You need to show your parents the packet created  in class.  Parents will sign the test.  Parents may also choose to answer a couple of questions on a questionnaire. (By 11/15)
 
3.  You will work on a new study guide (you will get a PAWs stamp upon completion of the study guide) and attend a PAWs session on 11/19 or 11/20 .  Limit 25 students per PAWs session, first come, first served for choosing the day of review.
 
Please remember that the test will NOT look exactly the same and you will keep your most recent grade.
 
Test will be conducted in class upon return from Thanksgiving Break.  Tuesday/Wednesday Dec. 4 or 5.

This is a short unit and a short unit test on the Byzantine Empire and the initial spread of Christianity.  (50-51, 59-65 in your textbook)

Just wanted to send a shout out to my students in 3rd period who did an excellent job during the CA Great Shakeout.  They patiently ducked and covered for a few minutes, walked purposefully to their place on the field and waited respectfully for the "rescue" efforts to conclude (it was hot!).  Thanks Maritza for helping lead the class there, thanks Che for volunteering to bring my chair back and Gianna for helping me make sure that we brought all our trash with us.

2.  Three forms of government, as they apply to Ancient Rome.  (Monarchy, republic, empire) 
3.  Some of the achievements of the Ancient Roman civilization.  (Describe and explain the significance then and now)
