Here is a digital copy of our newspaper assignment, which we started in class this past Tuesday/Wednesday.

 

Remember, you and your partner must complete your newspaper by the start of class on Monday.

 

We worked for at least 45 minutes on this on Tuesday/Wednesday, and for most, if not all, of today's class.

 

Please remember, the directions for the article are written as the article in "Joyce Junior's" newspaper. 

 

Still, you must develop your own newspaper title, article title, subtitle, article, four line poem, advertisement/propaganda, and political cartoon.

 

 

Check out the Rubric and treat it as a checklist.

I forgot to post a summary of what we did yesterday, sorry.

 

First, as a class we read a summary of the stamp act riots.  We then completed the first side of our Class notes together.

 

Today, we choose quotes to integrate for the first two questions on the back side of our class notes (villains and heroes), and practiced integrating phrases into opinion sentences.

 

This leaves one task for homework (although, many of you have completed this already), your short answer.  Good luck.

Below, you can find a quick synopsis of what we did in class.  Please review if you were absent or if you needed more time to complete your class work.

 

First, we discussed how empathy takes imagination; then, we looked at Renee Brown's summary of empathy.  Review it below.

Next, we took a second look at a reading from earlier in the week, "Land Thirst and Racism".  See below.

 

Later, we were given a character from a list of people discussed in the reading (if you were absent, then you can choose your character).  See below.

 

Find your character in the reading by checking for its paragraph number in the far right column.

 

Get in touch with an emotion that you think your character might have had.

 

On a sheet of lined paper, list their emotion and any details (or imagined details) from their life that might have caused them to feel the way you think that they did.

 

Example for #18, a "Paxton Boy":

 

 

Wrathful

 

 

from western Pennsylvania, murdered Conestogas in December of 1763, felt killing was justified, racist, lost their wife and kids in a raid (imagined), wants vengeance (kind of imagined)...

 

Next, on your paper, in character, write a journal entry describing a story that would support why the history book described them the way it did.
