Finish your name in Arabic.  Make sure it is done in marker, colored and has your name in English in the bottom right corner.

Don't forget that drawing Mahoma should be avoided and to be respectful in your illustrations.  Symbolic representations are recommended and coloring is required.

Dear students and families,

 

Please enjoy this well deserved Winter Break.  Thank you for all the amazing wishes, cards and gifts.  I am truly blessed to work with such a caring and generous community.   

 

Today, Friday December 22, is the last day of the first semester! I will be updating grades over the Winter break.  NO more work is ACCEPTED for this semester, unless you have a valid absence and you made prior arrangements.  I do get a week after the break to finalize my grades.  I will take that week to correct or update any issues.  

 

I know we have some amazing, but easily stressed students, please try not to stress/think about this class over the break.  All final test results will be discussed upon return. 

 

Lastly, I wanted to inform all families that at this moment donations of the following items are welcomed:

 

1.  Facial tissues (we are down to zero)

2.  Wipes for cleaning surfaces

3.  Book donations - look for an awesome book you have read and no longer read and consider donating to our classroom library! (Buying new books is against the rules!)

Interactive Notebook due.

 

Notebooks will be finalized on December 14, but students should keep them until at least the test date, so that they can use them for review.  

 

Students leaving on vacation prior to turn in date need to turn them on their last class day for this semester, otherwise student will receive no credit.

Semester Test

3 Sections

Section A (50 points) :  50 multiple choice questions (30 Feudalism Unti +20 review Rome/ Byzantine Empire)

Section B (20 points):  Compare and Contrast Summative Test (Students will read an excerpt and use a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast European feudalism and Japanese Feudalism).

Section C (15 points):  School related vocabulary test.  (30 words need to be produced and spelled correctly, students already have list and should be reviewing daily).

 

Students will receive a study guide on December 11, we will review formative test prior to formative test and we will do a final review in class on December 18.

You many want to research images of Mount Fuji, Cherry Blossom Trees, any of the main cities in your map (Tokyo, Kyoto, Sapporo, etc.), ocean images, rice farming or seaweed farming.

 

-on the back side you will need to use the format described in class, include a stamp of your own design, an address (fictional is okay) and a message to a friend or family member (fictional okay).  The most important part is the message you write for them.  After a short greeting, tell your friend in 2-4 sentences how your trip to Japan has been and something you learned about Japan's geography/culture/history based on today's notes.  I will be near my computer until 7:30pm, email me if you have questions.

First sentence:  Thesis statement

Second sentence:  State one of his achievements.

Third sentence:  Elaborate (give details) about his first achievement.

Fourth sentence:  State a second achievement.

Fifth sentence:  Elaborate on second achievement.

Sixth sentence:  State third achievement.

Seventh sentence:  Elaborate on third achievement.

Eight sentence:  Conclusion, restate thesis statement and add a little something.

 

Please look at your graphic organizer from this past Tuesday, the reading on Carlomagno (Charlemagne) and page 294 to find the achievements and for help with elaboration.  You may also do outside research, if you would like to.

 

Also, if you can, bring calligraphy pens/markers or any nice (but not too expensive) writing tools.  

 

 

We will be working on illuminated manuscripts next week.  I would really appreciate donations of calligraphy markers (not pens, because most kids AND this teacher can't use them) or the gold/silver sharpie markers.  If you can send a couple for kids to share that would be greatly appreciated.  We will be using them on Tuesday October 31, 2017.

 

While I am at it, if you happen to be an expert calligrapher and would like to send some suggestions, or if you are a cleared volunteer, and would like to do a tutorial for students on Tuesday, that would be awesome!

Students planing to retake the Rome Unit test or the Summary Summative must get a parent signature on appropriate test tonight and a parent signature (or guardian signature) on retake form.  

 

These two are FIRM requirements for tomorrow's review session.  

 

Reminder due to a schedule conflict with 7th grade PRIDE awards this Thursday during PAWs students that would like to retake the test prior to the end of  the quarter must retake test on the following dates and times.  Thursday and Friday before school, during lunch, or after school.

 

Students may also retake it next week during PAWs on Tuesday but it will not be counted for this quarter's grade.

1.  Finish your pop-up project, just don't cut and paste, we will do that together on Tuesday. (10 pts.)

     a.  Pick 4 things you would like to share about yourself, ie. your favorite food, music, sport and 

      use that as the title of each quote.

     b.  On each quote then write a short 1-2 sentence description about your choice.

     c.  Draw yourself in the appropriate silhouette.

     d.  Illustrate something you mentioned in your writing in the big rectangle or choose a picture

      from home and paste it there (this is the only place you should be pasting things on).

     e.  Make sure to make it neat, colorful and professional.  We will be sharing them and some of 

      will go on the board!  Do NOT try to make the pop-up at home, we will put it together in class on       Tuesday.
