The Photojournalist Assignment in Google Classroom

The Photojournalist Assignment

This is
an INDIVIDUAL project because it is based on your opinion.  You will
research one of the photographers below and create a slideshow
presentation of their work.  If you want to present another photojournalist, that's fine too but please tell me who it is before you
start.
The slideshow must be at least 10 slides and tell us the following:
Their name, birth (and death if applicable) dates.
Where they are from?
Did the study photography or did they learn on their own?
What is their most famous photo (if that exists but many have won Pulitzer Prizes for their photography)
Tell us any interesting backgroud facts about them
Show us at least 7 images of their work
NOTE:
This is a list of historically relevant and critically acclaimed
photographers.  Some images may be disturbing (wartime photographers, etc.).  I hope you can be mature enough that if you come across an
image that does not seem appropriate, you will recognize that it is in
fact important journalism / news and not feature the photo in your presentation if it seems like it might be upsetting to someone.  Again, these are all world-class
photographers and are worthy of study.  This list was given to me from a
Harvard Westlake High School Photography Class.

Due:

Refractive Photography in Google Classroom

Refractive Photography

We'll do this in class.  If it's too hard for you to submit your photos, please show them to me on your phone.
You must show me SIX examples of refractive photography.  Please try out all the various set ups and feel free to create your own background using paper provided.

Due:

My Favorite Photographer Presentation in Google Classroom

My Favorite Photographer Presentation

This is an INDIVIDUAL project because it is based on your opinion.  You will research one of the photographers below and create a slideshow presentation of thier work.  If you want to present another photographer, that's fine too but please tell me who it is before you start.
The slideshow must be at least 10 slides and tell us the following:
Their name, birth (and death if applicable) dates.
Where they are from?
Did the study photography or did they learn on their own?
What is their style?
Tell us any interesting backgroud facts about them
Show us at least 7 images of their work
NOTE:  This is a list of historically relevant and criticially acclaimed photographers.  Many photographers will shoot the human figure for the sake of art.  I hope you can be mature enough that if you come across an image that does not seem appropriate, you will recognize that it is in fact art and just move on.  Again, these are all world-class photographers and are worthy of study.  This list was given to me from a Harvard Westlake High School Photography Class.

Backdrop Color Ideas in Google Classroom

Backdrop Color Ideas

Today in class you will research all the different backdrop colors / textures for class photos for 20 min and then present to the class what you think is the best color to use for next year's yearbook photos.  You may do this solo or with ONE partner.  Here is an example I found online.  Use physical yearbooks to research or simply Google "headshot backdrops" or "portrait backdrops".

Due:

New Cover Idea in Google Classroom

New Cover Idea

This is a TWO week project because many of you are working on pages still.  You are to come up with a new theme, the color palette, the fonts (4-5 headline fonts and 3 body fonts) AND designs that could tie the pages together to make the overall theme consistent throughout the book.  You must also tell us about sales and marketing campaign ideas for your yearbook.  Use other school's yearbooks as inspiration!!  You can work with one partner and you will be presenting this to class on Thursday the 24th.  IF you are working right up until the end, you must talk to me and get my approval to do this assignment AFTER spring break.  To sum up - your presentation needs:
-Yearbook Cover Theme
-Yearbook Cover Wording
- Color Palette
- Fonts (4-5 headline fonts and 3 body fonts)
-Design idea for pages to keep the theme cohesive throughout the book
And you will present this to class on Thursday the 24th (our last meeting before spring break)

monday's class work in Google Classroom

monday's class work

On a Google Doc, you need to do the following:
1) Login in Walsworth (I know a few of you can’t but partner up with someone who can) and COUNT AGAIN the number of pages you are on.

2) you need to look at the event / page you’re doing and figure out what page you should start first.  For example, if you’re doing a classroom page, you can start NOW.  If you’re doing the 8th grade formal, you cannot start that now.

3) Tell me who you're working with on each page and what ORDER you’ll be doing them in.  Example, I'll work on page 1 with Polly and do this first.  I'll work on page 2 with Pete and do this page second. etc.

3) You’ll also tell me what design elements you need to search the web for and what you need from me in order to get started.

VOTE!! Titles / story line / Colors

We'll do fonts in class. If I am missing anything, please let me know ASAP.

Due:

Email me the pages you want to work on in Google Classroom

Email me the pages you want to work on

Check the ladder below and send me an email to tell me which pages you want to work on.  Everyone will work on four pages BUT, you will also work with a partner on their four so you will really work on about 8 total.  Note, this is about designing the actual page.  You may be asked to photograph other events in addition to the pages that you are designing and you will probably photograph events for pages you're not even working on.

I've written in the names of people who already emailed me so choose from what's left unless there is only one name next to a spot. For the sports and academics pages, we need at least 4 people to cover those.
If you have already emailed me and your name is on this doc, please mark this as done. THANK YOU.
