Your choice: turn in the ten dialectical journals or write an in class essay.

In the next few days, you will see your reading level/lexile level on Aeries.

I've attached a chart to help you understand what this means. It will not be part of your grade.

Exit Interviews will be after school on June 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.  Make sure you practice answering the attached questions with a parent or friend. We will practice in class too.

All text books are to be returned today, Tuesday, May 26th.

Extension: Typed Resume and Cover Letter due today. 5/18-5/19.

In you have nothing to do in the computer lab, visit some of the following websites.

Promotion Speech due today.  Periods 1 and 5 must write a promotion speech, but delivery is optional. You must deliver your speech if you would like to be considered for promotion.

Period 2,4, and 6 the speech is optional and for extra credit, up to 20 points based on your content and delivery.

On Monday you will have and open book quiz to see if you are able to determine the theme and write a summary. I will check your progress on the journals, but I will not expect the journals to be done until we finish the text in class. Approx. due date is 5/14-5/15

The House on Mango Street Dialectical Journal- 10 entries will be completed in class. When we have finished the book, you will submit your journal. This is an approximate due date. I have changed the requirements: you may write on any of the nine themes, not just the one you were assigned. If you have been absent, please come to PAWS to get caught up.

Your biography book project is due today.

In a blended quote, write  five facts/quotes about your person. Include the in text citations

Example: Rosa Parks recalled working as a child: "I was a field hand when I was quite young-not more than six or seven. I was given a flour sack like the other children and expected to collect one or two pounds of cotton"(Freedman 24-25).

Extra credit of up to 30 points for students who take the 8th grade ELA practice test and record their answers on a sheet of paper.

TESTING WILL BEGIN WHEN WE RETURN FROM SPRING BREAK

The CCMS testing window for all students will begin upon return from Spring Break on April 7^th.  Please support us by ensuring that students are on time to school, eating breakfast, and sleeping well the night before.  Attached is the testing schedule and a parent letter that will be mailed home this week.  Students will test in their content area class (i.e. English Language Arts (ELA) test will be taken during the period the student has ELA) and each subject will we taken over the course of two weeks.  The English Language Arts and Math Test will be taken on computers and the Eighth grade science will be taken the week of May 11 (pencil and paper test).  Please contact Mr. Barclay or Dr. Gotanda if you have any questions regarding the schedule or the test itself.
