Due:

Assignment

9/30/14:
Students reviewed the different types of Point of View in class. They took careful notes on the material. For HW students should complete the Narrative Perspective Worksheet. Their class notes will help them complete it. The worksheet is due for period 3 on Thursday, 10/3 and period 4 on Friday, 10/4. The link to the prezi with the information on Point of View is below.

Due:

Assignment

9/22/14:
Class work: Today students reviewed the front page of the Probable Passage homework and did some vocabulary review. Unfortunately, many of the scores on the vocab quiz were not ideal, so we will be doing some extra review lessons in class. It is also imperative that students study outside of the classroom! Please don't forget to review your words at home too.

Homework: There will be vocabulary test on Monday, September 29th. This will focus mainly on terms 13-28 in the packet. However, I will also include some of the words from last week as well (those listed 1-12 in the packet).

****If a student is not happy with his or her score from the quiz on Friday, he/she will have the option to allow their score on Monday's quiz to replace the score from last week. This means that if a student received a C- on last week's quiz, he can write at the top of his new quiz on Monday "count for last week's quiz." In which case, whatever score he receives on Monday- whether it is higher or lower- will replace Friday's score.

Please study! I cannot stress the importance of this. Use your packets and review these terms. You are totally capable of this!

Due:

Assignment

9/24/14:

Just a reminder that tomorrow for period 3 and Friday for periods 4 and 6, students will be turning in a lot of the HW that was assigned previously, but has not been collected.
Students must turn in:
1. The entire vocab packet- please be sure that you have completed work for all 28 terms.
2. The probable passage assignment- complete the front and the back; make sure you have a gist statement and 3 additional questions.
3. The exposition exercise- this should be done on a separate sheet of paper; we will be doing peer editing with these in class so make sure they are complete.

Thank you for all your hard work!!

Due:

Assignment

9/11/14-
Classwork:
All 7th grade classes are in various stages of reviewing the elements of plot. I have attached the class notes on this material. If you were absent or have misplaced the notes, please copy the ones I have attached in your own words and place them in the Class Work section of your binder.

We are also beginning our first short story in class. We will be reading "The Lady or the Tiger." In order to fully comprehend the text, a vocabulary lesson is necessary. Students will be completing the vocabulary packet in class. I have attached it below as well.

****On Thursday, 9/18 for period 3 and Friday, 9/19 for periods 4 and 6 there will be a brief vocab quiz on the first 12 terms in the packet. Start studying as soon as you receive your packet.

****Our next reading logs will be due on Monday, September 22. I will grade and return this week's logs on Monday, September 15th. Students will have to complete 5 entries during those 7 days. I have attached my reading logs, so if you'd like to start reading right away, go for it!

Due:

Assignment

9/12/14 Homework: On Monday, 9/22, I will be collecting the summer reading project. The project and all instructions are available online. I have included the link below:

Due:

Assignment

9/18/14 and 9/19/14:
Class work:
Today students took their vocabulary test for the first twelve terms from our vocabulary packet for "The Lady or the Tiger."
Then they began to work on the Probable Passage assignment.

Homework due 9/22:
If you did not finish the Probable Passage Assignment in class, please finish it for homework this weekend. I will be collecting it on Monday. This worksheet is included as an attachment below. Also, it appears that some students did not complete all 28 of the vocabulary terms. The last chance to turn in all 28 terms is Monday! Please complete!

Additionally, your reading logs are due on Monday. Please do not forget the parent signature!!

Summer reading projects are also due on Monday.

While this seems like a lot of work, the summer reading and reading logs have been long-term assignments. Hopefully, you did not wait till the last minute.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend and I look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Due:

Assignment

9/15/14- Homework: On Thursday, 9/18 (Period 3) and Friday, 9/19 (Periods 4 & 6) there will be a vocabulary quiz on the first twelve terms from "The Lady or the Tiger." Students are completing their vocabulary packets and we will be reviewing for the quiz in class. Students should also be studying at home by thinking about synonyms for the terms and going over their packets.

The quiz should take a little less than half the period (about 35-40 minutes). There will be some multiple choice as well as short answer questions. Be aware that simply memorizing the definitions of the words will not be enough; think more about how the words can be used in sentence.

Study hard, pay attention in class, and you will all do great! :)

Due:

Assignment

9/15/14- Homework: Please complete at least the first 12 vocabulary words from your packet. Make sure each word has a definition, a synonym, a sentence, and a picture.

If you need an extra copy of the packet, I have included it in previous posts.

THIS IS DUE TUESDAY, 9/16 FOR PERIOD 3.
THIS IS DUE WEDNESDAY, 9/17 FOR PERIODS 4 & 6.

*EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY*- If anyone completes the entire packet by the above due dates, that person will receive 5 points of extra credit towards their vocab quiz at the end of this week.

Due:

Assignment

9/4/13 and 9/5/13
Class work:
Students will have to show me that they have all required materials as listed on the syllabus. Students will also receive a new reading log form for this coming week.

Class time will be given for students to finalize their scripts for the different types of conflict we have been studying. During the last hour of the period, students will complete a pre-assessment writing assignment to demonstrate their current knowledge on narrative writing.

Homework:
The new reading logs are due Thursday, 9/11 (Period 3) and Friday, 9/12 (Periods 4 and 6). Make sure you get a parent signature to show that you did read during the week.

***Please note, if you were unable to complete your reading log last week, you can receive full credit for that assignment by doing 7 entries in your reading log for this week. This means you must read for a total of 7 nights. Do the additional 2 entries on the backside of your reading log and you will receive full credit for both weeks. This is a ONE-TIME exception since it is still early in the year. After this, I will not accept late reading logs.

Due:

Assignment

9/10/14:

Reading Logs are due on Thursday (tomorrow) for periods 3 and 5.
Reading Logs are due on Friday for periods 2, 4, and 6.

Remember to include 7 entries if you are making up for last week and I need a parent signature at the bottom.

Thank you!

Due:

Assignment

9/8/14
Class work: Today students completed their scripts and skits to illustrate one of the five kinds of conflict. The performances were a success in all classes, so congratulations! Students then reviewed the elements of plot and took notes on the material.

Homework: In addition to the reading log which is due 9/11 for period 3 and 9/12 for periods 4 and 6, students need to print out and bring in the lyrics of a song that tells a story. These lyrics must be appropriate for school. There should be no adult content or material. The lyrics are due 9/10 for all periods.

I will also be collecting the summer reading assignment on 9/21. All information regarding summer reading is on the CCMS webpage. I have included a link below:

Due:

Assignment

Welcome to the 7th grade English Language Arts Webpage!

Below you will find a brief summary of what occurred in class, as well as the homework. Please email me with any questions!

9/3/14:
Class work:
Today students worked on creating their scripts to illustrate one of the five types of conflict we have been reviewing. Students worked in groups to create a short 5-10 minute skit that would obviously reflect one type of conflict. They will be turning in 1 script per group. Most periods did not complete this task due to the assembly schedule. There will be more time on Monday.

Homework:
Tomorrow I will be conducting a materials check. The materials are listed in the syllabus. I am also listing them below:

-3 dividers in a 3 ring binder (it can be a binder you share with other classes, don't carry around more than you need!)
-1 composition book for writing workshops
-1 highlighter
-at least 2 pens- 1 red and 1 blue or black ink
-notebook paper to go inside the dividers

We will be labeling the dividers in class tomorrow, but if you would like to get ahead, please do! The dividers will be labeled as follows:
-1st divider will be labeled "Bell Write"
-2nd divider will be labeled "Class Work"
-3rd divider will be labeled "Word Work"

Have a great night!
See you tomorrow 7th grade!
