Good morning everyone! Please open the attached document and fill in the notes (from the presentation in class) regarding the issues that divided the nation and ultimately led to the Civil War/War amongst the states.

All week we will be working on a group project on the causes leading up to the American Revolution.  Each group will be assigned a topic and will be researching and taking notes on the topic the first few days, and then will be creating/designing a power point presentation to present to the class later in the week (Thursday January 29^th). The handout is attached below with the directions.  If you know you are going to be absent, please make sure that you leave your notes with other group members who are going to be in class.  They are relying on you.  :)

Today we learned about the Enlightenment using the Chrome Books. Homework is to finish the "Enlightenment Wequest" for Monday.

 

Today we used the Chrome books to learn about the Great Awakening. Homework is to finish both Web Quest activities if you have not already done so.

 

We will start discuss and learning about The Enlightenment on Thursday.

 

Also, I have attached the instructions for the Newspaper project that is due Thursday January 15th. Presentation for the Newspaper project will begin Tuesday Jan. 13th.

The Great Awakening/Enlightenment Newspaper Assignment Chapter 5  

Using the information from class (web quest), create a full color newspaper that discusses the events and prominent figures of either the Great Awakening (2 articles) or the Enlightenment (2 articles).

 

Write the articles as if this is a current newspaper and these events are taking place right now.  

 

Components:

 

1. The newspaper should be dated according to the time period that is being discussed. (5 pts.)______ pts.
2. 2 pages/2 articles per page, each article must have a headline/title (10 pts.)   ______ pts.

We are about to finish Chapter 4- The Colonies Develop. Students need to finish "The Middle Colonies" information sheet and  be ready to discuss and describe the religious, social and political life in the colony.

 

Thursday: We will also discuss the Southern Colonies followed by an open note quiz on the 3 colonial regions (New England, Middle, and Southern).

Excellent job on our Triangular Trade Activity. Homework due on Monday is to finish the Captain's Log and the Map from the Triangular Trade packet.

 

Also, finish reading your assign section and come up with one question that you would like to include on the test. Question should be about the information you have read.

 

For example: If you read the section on "African Americans in the middle Colonies" create a question regarding this section.

 

Today we received a copy of the Chp. 3 Study guide, Test will be on Monday Nov. 24th.

 

We also worked on why various groups and organizations came to the Colonies and the reason why they came. (Why did they come? worksheet)

 

Finally, we reviewed the instructions and rubric regarding the Colonies Brochure project that is due on Monday Nov. 24th. We will go to the computer lab on Tuesday Nov. 18th to begin our research for this project.

13 Original Colonies

 

Introduction   Mr. Diaz, the owner of the local Travel Agency--Back in Time Travel--needs your help to advertise his new agency. The agency is unique in that it brings people to places during other time periods!  He heard that you are learning about the 13 original colonies and are becoming experts about the life in those colonies. He needs your help to create the travel brochures that he will give to entice people to visit these areas on their time travel trips.   

The Task You will be choosing a colony region to produce a travel brochure. Your brochure should be a tool to try and recruit further settlement in your colony. Be sure to follow the directions carefully in order to receive full credit on this assignment

The Process Begin by reviewing the Brochure directions. (See attached assignment rubric).Use the textbook, notes, or other resources to answer all questions.

Once the Information Sheet is completed, you are ready to begin creating your publication.  You must understand what makes your colony stand out from all the others.  You must use your research to convince those 500 new Colonists to move to your colony.  Remember, you are creating this publication during the early 1700's.  Your information MUST be from this time period and historically accurate

After completing your research, you may access Microsoft Publisher (Brochure) or use the TEMPLATE on my homework page to present your material to the new colonists. 

Please continue to refer to the rubric/direction list to ensure that you include EVERYTHING needed in your publication.

Once the brochures are completed, you will give a presentation to the class on your brochure.

Great Job on the 13 Colonies packet, it seems like everyone enjoyed working in groups.I still have several students that did not turn them in on Thursday, make sure I have them by Monday.

 

Also, I will be distributing directions for our next project that needs to be complete before Thanksgiving break.

We also took annotated notes and  Analyzed in groups the primary source worksheet regarding   "The Mayflower Compact".

 

Your homework that is due on Thursday, is to finish the Vocabulary worksheet as well as finishing the Document Analysis summary which is at the bottom of  The Mayflower Compact worksheet.

If you could go back in time and give advice to the Jamestown settlers, what Three (3) pieces of advice would you give them and WHY? Give facts to support your answer.

 

Use your notes//discussion points that we discussed in class to complete this assignment.

 

Today we discussed and took notes on Jamestown, John Smith, and Pocahontas. Please finish up any sheet that you are missing from the Colonization unit and be ready to turn it in on Thursday.

 

I will be grading notebooks (again) on Thursday. You will need to take your notebooks home on Thursday to get them checked and sign by your parents.
