Next Monday will be our Economics Supply and Demand quiz. You took notes, and began to read and annotate a packet and answer questions. Use this material to study! 

 

On the day of the test you will be able to use your answers to the questions from the packet only as a test tool. So make sure you answer incomplete sentences so it helps you! Dont forget to bring it with you.

Do research on your issue to come up with a real world event that has happened about your Issue and what makes it a problem.. You may also research how to fix the issue online to see how other politicians plan on fixing the issue. 

Bring a printout of your picture that you want to use for your Presidential Speech visual on Tuesday/Wednesday.. It may be a younger or baby picture if you so choose. 

Finish your biography paragraph of your Presidential Speech. I have attached our class notes and examples of biography paragraphs. 

If you did not finish reading/annotating and answering the questions for the Hillary Clinton/Bernie Sanders Progressive article please finish and turn in by the due date. 

1. On separate piece of paper, proper heading and title. Answer questions 2, 3, 5, 6 (Look back at what it means to be a Democrat in our notes - government to solve our problems) & Do you think a President should be getting paid from big corporations?

Progressive definition: a person advocating or implementing social reform or new, liberal ideas. A progressive person uses government power to make sure big corporations play by the “rules” and for example don’t price gouge.

If you did not finish answering the questions to the Birthright Citizenship article in class, please finish it for hw and turn it and the article into the bin the next class period.

Each day you will write a warm up, so I am recommending a 1 subject spiral, notebook for my class and 1 tab in your binder to hold articles and assignments.

Finish your stock market project, including the back page. If you turn it in for period 3, and period 6 on Tues/Wed you will receive 5 extra credit points. But the project is due Thursday/Friday. 

Productivity and Specialization packet - Finish answering questions and taking the quiz at the back of the packet. You will turn in both on Monday for a quiz grade. 

Law of Demand packet - Study for your quiz on Monday. You will be able to use the separate sheet of paper that you wrote your answers to the questions on for the quiz, but not the packet. Bring answers to class on Monday!

Many of your presented and turned in your WONDERFUL technology projects already, but if you didn't finish in class then you need to finish it over the break. Finish questions (50 pts) and your drawing of the technology created (40 pts) and be ready to present 11/30 when we come back (10 pts).

Over the weekend continue working on your questions for your Technology Project. You will only have half a period next week to finish your project, including the drawing. We will present our technology projects Mon/Tues before Thanksgiving break. 

Bring to class your finished Current Event Report question sheet, annotated article, and picture (extra credit for color) and be ready to present your Current Event Report Summary.

What's Happening? Current Events Report! 

Today we will start researching an article to use for our report in the Computer Lab. If you weren't able to find an article, continue researching at home. This project is due in 2 weeks!! 11/3 (p.3), 11/4 (p.6)

When you find your article print it out. Read the directions carefully on your rubric for what to do with the article. You will be getting 100 points for this project: 50 points for answering the questions, 15 points for including & annotating the article, 10 points for picture/visual, 25 points for presentation. The visual should be about a page large so that it can be visual for the class when it goes up on our classroom "What's Happening?" board. 

 

1. Read and annotate your article.

2. Answer the questions on the Current Events Report sheet

3. Find a picture or graph to support your article. If your article doesn't have one, then try google searching the topic for a picture under google images. 

4. Be ready to present your article to the class. This presentation is simply a summary of the article, why you found it interesting and to show us your visual. 

 

Finish your article annotations, questions, main idea/phrase/word, and two open ended questions for (Boy 6, fatally shoots.. and Suspect in Deadly... articles) Be ready to discuss  what you got as a team and lead the discussion on Monday and Tuesday/Wednesday.

 

Finish your Current Event Report.. and your Summary (which is your presentation that will be on Tuesday/Wednesday). Current Event Report, visual, and presentations are due Tuesday/Wednesday

If you haven't already found and printed an article for your Current Event Report project, tonight you must do so. If you do not come to class prepared with your  worksheet and article next time I see you, you won't be able to take advantage of the time in class to work on it. 

 

Remember, copy and paste your article into a google doc and share the document with me. Print from your google document that way you can format it and get rid of any extra parts you don't need (like Adds). 

 

 

Your typed final draft of Presidential Speech and Presidential Poster is due.

 

Speeches will be done in class on your due date. Length of speech should be between 2-3 minutes.

 

This is your first big project due in Contemporary Issues, please put effort in and come to PAWS if you need help.

Please look at rubric for what the poster looks like. Think of it as a visual that goes with your speech. 

 

Practice reading your speech out loud. You are not required to memorize your speech, but be ready to be graded on how you speak, and how loud you speak. You want to look prepared, and not that you are just reading your speech for the first time. 

 

 

Finish your 2nd draft. This draft is a clean draft that has all edits changed from the 1st draft, including adding examples that demonstrate your issues that you researched online (I.E. Planned Parenthood included in the issue of Abortion). Make sure your 2nd draft is in class because we are going to the computer lab to type our final drafts. If you typed your first draft, please share the document to your google drive that way you can continue editing it in the computer lab. Everyone will be sharing their final drafts with me on their google drive. 

Presidential Speech Rough draft is due in class Thursday or Friday depending on your period. You were given a very detailed rubric that has directions and examples of what I am looking for in this assignment.

 

I know we researched in class in the computer lab, but please keep researching at home for ways to help fix the issues, as well as look at other Presidential Candidate biographies for examples. Also you may research inspirational quotes, statistics or stories for your hook.

 

Research tips: Research is trial and error. Go to Google and type in for example: "How to Fix Gun Control issues Liberal" and go to the articles that pop up. Make sure that it follows the side you are on! Articles will also pop up with important statistics to catch peoples attention that you could use for your hook.  

We will be working on our Presidential Poster in class on Thursday or Friday. Please come to class with a picture of yourself to be put on your poster as well as any markers, or colored pencils you'd like to use.

Finish brainstorming about 3 characteristics, and 2 important events that help you to be a good Presidential Candidate.

Finish annotating the Liberals vs. Conservative packet that was started in class.

 

Directions:

1. Read the packet and annotate each issue (both sides). Minimum 1 fact for each side.

2. Choose (star) three issues that you will use in your Presidential Speech

      - annotate deeper. Underlining key facts that will help support your decision to focus on this issue and summarize both sides.

3. Be ready to tell me the three issues you have chosen on Monday.

Progress reports went out today. If your parents received an email regarding a progress report, please do take into consideration that we have only met for 2 weeks and therefore I have very few assignments so far. Meaning each assignment is worth a lot of points.

 

This is a great time to reflect on how you've been doing so far: are you putting in the effort and doing the work and coming to class to participate? If you think  you haven't been putting in your best effort, I hope you will start!
