Hi Periods 1-6!

I just wanted to share the following exhibits that two parents shared with me (thank you!) as an opportunity to attend a cultural event that relates to Spanish.

I know some of my 8th graders are working on the biliteracy seal and one of the requirements ask that they attend a cultural event relating to the target language (Spanish) or complete volunteer hours where the target language is spoken. So the following exhibits would be great for students to attend to fulfill the requirement.

For my 6th graders, I am sharing it in case you are interested! Have a great weekend!

#1."Cuba is" at Annenberg Photo Space
Revealing complexities both on and off the island, Cuba Is explores aspects of Cuba not easily accessed by foreigners, and sometimes not even by Cubans themselves. Born from indigenous, African and European roots, divergent politics and limitations in communication and commerce, the Cuba seen in this exhibition goes beyond the folklore and offers new insight into its current reality. Over 120 photos feature subjects ranging from defiant youth known as “frikis” to the hard-partying children of the 1%, the underground system of sharing digital content—“El paquete”—to Miami’s Chonga girls.

"Resolviendo" at Annenberg as well.
RESOLVIENDO is a familiar sentiment in Cuban culture that is being redefined by a new generation. RESOLVIENDO—or “creative drive; resolve”—describes the by-any-means-necessary sensibility of Cuban artists, creating their work despite a lack of resources. As part of Cuba Is, Skylight Studios will celebrate this creative spirit with an interactive installation comprised of artworks and media, much of it exhibited for the first time in the United States, including original pieces visitors can take home. All throughout the exhibition, guests will see and experience the imaginative and creative solutions of the Cuban people, with a special focus on technological improvisations.

Students do not have any homework for the weekend. They could get a head-start on their research but they will have class time on Monday and Tuesday to work on their research for their project.

Items due to me today: Students (groups) should have emailed me a topic question for their research. If you emailed it to me during class, no need to email again. If you still have not sent over your topic question, you should email it to me by tonight.
