Hola parents, guardians and students:
This is Sandra Valencia your child’s new Spanish teacher and I’m very happy to be to be part of the Culver City School District family as a full-time teacher. My goal is to inspire your child to be a life-long learner by making my class exciting, interesting, relevant and fun. I’ll teach my class using an immersion approach as we explore the rich and diverse cultures of Spanish speakers.
I highly encourage you to watch movies, documentaries and music videos in Spanish, as well as visit museums and events where Spanish culture is displayed. I will assign homework on Mondays and go over the next Monday. Homework won’t take longer than an hour to complete.
About me: I’m originally from Medellín, Colombia and moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA where I studied History with a Latin American Studies Minor. I’ve taught Spanish, Health, Environmentalism, and English as a Second Language for a total of twelve years. I have a ten-year-old daughter who’s a fourth grader at El Marino, I’m a Nationally Board certified teacher, I speak French and Portuguese, have traveled extensively around the world and make music. I’m very passionate about education reform, environmental sustainability, and justice. I love to dance, to discover new music, play guitar, watch documentaries, swim in any body of water and explore new places and foods.
I will be in communication with your through this site so please check it often. If I have a concern regarding your child you will get a phone call from me. Please be in communication with me by e-mail: [email protected]
I look forward to an amazing semester!
Sandra Valencia
