Yeah, I finally was able to upload my pictures for those students who were absent last week! The poem is not due on Monday. Just thought some of you may want to work on it.
  • There is a picture of my lesson on a part of speech - interjections (like the one I used in the first sentence of this post!)
  • The second two pictures are of the worksheet for the "Alliteration Poem" project. Alliteration is a type of figurative language (repetition of consonant letters) -"... soft, silky snow"
  • students are coming up with their own "creature" and giving it a name which must start with a consonant letter (any letter except vowels). Then students are creating a poem (does not need to rhyme), alliterating most of the words with the same letter that your creature starts with. See the examples on the worksheet.

  • The novel(s) should be recorded on the Book Log and I will be checking it, along with a parent signature at the end of the month (exact due date will be announced).  Weekend homework is to read. I will be doing random "book checks", so students MUST always have their novel in class. I have attached a suggested book list below. February will also be "free choice."
 
  • We are beginning to work on an Argumentative Essay - it will be a detailed teaching process - starting with the topic choice, research, then learning and modeling how to write an argumentative essay. Most of the work will be done in class - the due date will be given when students are close to the final draft, editing process.
