Electives

Students in grades 6-8 each have 1 period of elective classes that they will take.
6th grade students either take year long electives (Band, Strings, Choir, or dual Language) or they take classes from the Elective Wheel which switch each quarter.

7th and 8th grade students also have 1 elective period each year. They are either a yearlong elective (Band, Strings, Choir, Dual Language or Foreign Language, ASB, Yearbook, Advanced Theater, and AVID) or 1 elective each semester or a 1 yearlong elective.

Elective Wheel
Students in Grade 6 get the opportunity to explores various electives throughout the school year. Each quarter the 6th graders rotate through one of the parts of the Elective Wheel. These electives are precursors to other electives that they may choose to take in 7th and/or 8th grade.

7th and 8th Grade Electives
During the Spring semester, students in Grades 6 and 7 are given the option to rank their top elective groups for the next school year. They will then rank their elective class options within that group.

Every effort is made to try to place students in their first choice, but as popular electives fill quickly, some students will be placed in alternative courses. Courses are subject to change based on student requests and staffing.

There are certain electives in each grade level that require students to complete an application.
