In an effort to promote the appropriate use of technology in the classroom and within the broader learning environments, the following procedures will guide the use and access to Culver City Middle School (CCMS) technology systems.
Technology Resources Access
Access to CCMS’s electronic technology resources is a privilege, not a right. All users shall be required to acknowledge receipt and understanding of regulations governing use of the technology resources and shall agree to allow monitoring of their use and to comply with all policies, regulations and guidelines.
Noncompliance may result in suspension of access or termination of privileges and other disciplinary action consistent with CCMS policies and the CCMS Student/Guardian Handbook. Violations of law may result in disciplinary action by CCMS, in addition to any action taken by law enforcement.
The school's information technology resources, including Internet access, are provided for educational purposes. Adherence to the following policy is necessary for continued access to the school's technological resources:
Regarding school and personal electronic devices students must:
We are an “Away All Day” campus. Cellphones, smartwatches, iPads, Meta glasses or other electronic signaling devices should be turned off and stored upon arrival to campus until dismissal.
- Respect and protect the privacy of others.
- Use only assigned accounts.
- Use their own electronic storage system (I.e. Google Drive) and be responsible for its appropriate content and security.
- Not view, use, or copy passwords, data, or networks to which they are not authorized.
- Not distribute private information about others or themselves, this includes, but is not limited to, personal addresses, telephone numbers, images, and passwords.
- Not use social media on CCMS systems.
- Respect and protect the integrity, availability, and security of all electronic resources.
- Observe all network security practices, as posted.
- Report security risks or violations to a teacher or administrator.
- Not destroy or damage data, networks, or other resources or storage devices that do not belong to them.
- Not use any network wall port in any CCMS building; not unplug any network device that is plugged into a network wall port.
- Not disable or attempt to disable content filtering devices on CCMS’ technology resource system.
- Not install or attempt to install any software or public domain programs on CCMS computers or technology system without expressed permission from the CCMS IT department
- Avoid actions that are likely to increase the risk of introducing viruses to the system, such as opening email messages from unknown senders and loading data from unprotected computers.
- Avoid eating or drinking while using school owned devices. Liquids will damage or destroy electronics. It is imperative that food and drink be kept away from devices.
- Respect and protect the intellectual property of others.
- Not infringe copyrights (no making illegal copies of music, games, or movies!).
- Not plagiarize.
- Not post any portion (still shot or video) of instruction to any social media or send to others via email without the expressed written permission of the teacher who produced the content.
- Respect and practice the principles of community.
- Not use another person’s user ID/login or personal storage device.
- Communicate only in ways that are kind and respectful.
- Report threatening or discomforting materials to a teacher.
- Not intentionally access, transmit, copy, or create material that violates the school's code of conduct (such as messages that are pornographic, threatening, rude, discriminatory, or meant to harass).
- Not intentionally access, transmit, copy, or create material that is illegal (such as obscenity, stolen materials, or illegal copies of copyrighted works).
- Not use the resources to further other acts that are criminal or violate the school's code of conduct.
- Not send spam, chain letters, or other mass unsolicited mailings.
- Not buy, sell, advertise, or otherwise conduct business, unless approved as a school project
- Not use personal devices to inhibit the learning of self or others in accordance with school policy
Consequences for Violation. Violations of these rules may result in disciplinary action, including the loss of a student's privileges to use the school's information technology resources.
