Ms. Laurie Livingston-Robert (known to her students as Ms. Robert) joined CCMS in the fall of 2022. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunications from Michigan State University, a Master of Education in Humanities from Grand Canyon University, and a Juris Doctor degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. At CCMS she has taught 8th Grade Social Science, 6th Grade Social Science and 8th Grade AVID.

 

Before entering the classroom, Ms. Robert enjoyed a diverse professional career. She was licensed to practice law in both Louisiana and Wisconsin and worked for two law firms. Once in California she served for more than a decade as the Operations Manager of the Los Angeles branch of CIBT, a national visa and passport service. After spending over ten years working with special education students in El Segundo, she earned her master's degree during the COVID-19 pandemic and fulfilled her longtime dream of becoming a history teacher.

History has always held a special place in Ms. Robert's life. Her mother's ancestor served on the committee that drafted the Declaration of Independence and later helped negotiate the Louisiana Purchase. This family connection helped inspire her lifelong passion for U.S. history and government.

 

A native of Michigan, Ms. Robert has lived in New York, Chicago, Louisiana, Wisconsin, and California. She relocated to California in 1997 and married her husband, Scott, later that year. Together they have two adult children. Outside of school, Ms. Robert enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time at the beach with a good book. She is an avid sports fan who proudly supports her alma mater, Michigan State University, as well as her home state professional teams: the Lions, Tigers, and Pistons. While she has embraced many of California's local teams, her loyalty remains with Michigan whenever the two meet.

 

In the classroom, Ms. Robert strives to instill a love of history in all of her students through engaging activities and a variety of instructional approaches. She enjoys bringing historical figures and events to life, helping students discover the fascinating stories that shape our world. As a former attorney, she especially enjoys teaching about the Constitution and helping students understand the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

Ms. Robert looks forward to meeting each new group of students and helping them make meaningful connections to the past.
