Task 1:

Watch at least three (3) videos by clicking on the link below (note that they are from the 2016 election, but they are still relevant). Fill out the chart below while watching the videos, with the speaker and the issues they care about.

Decide on an issue you will focus on for this unit (it’s YOUR choice). I suggest exploring a search engine to see how many relevant and credible articles you can find about your issue, just to make sure that you will be able to find enough research when the time comes. Ask Mr. Kern if you need help deciding, and make sure you pick a good one because it is NOT a good idea to change your issue as we continue to work on this unit. 

If you have extra time, please complete the Honorable Challenge. If you desire a Super Honorable Challenge, please discuss a logical one that we can compose as an extension.

Directions: The “Argumentative Essay,” which is a major assessment, is due Wednesday, December 18th. You are expected to use your work on the "Argumentative Essay Outline: The House on Mango Street"  to complete the “Argumentative Essay.” You must submit your double-spaced Times New Roman sized 12 font typed MLA formatted essay to the class tray.

Writing Prompt:
As a renowned Chicana writer, Sandra Cisneros uses The House on Mango Street to illuminate various thematic topics that guide Esperanza’s journey toward self-discovery. 
Highlight one (1) of the following prominent thematic topics to analyze: 
Community
Age
Gender
Culture
Social Class
Argue how the selected thematic topic reveals a corresponding theme that guides Esperanza through her journey of self-discovery. Be sure to thoroughly justify what Esperanza discovers about herself and why it is significant.

You will complete this assignment on paper and will submit your work to the corresponding class tray at the front of the classroom. These assignments will be displayed in our classroom.
