Recommended Summer Practice for Students taking Accelerated Math 7
As students move into Accelerated Math 7 next year, they will be expected to be fluent in the following skills. Fluent means that you are able to solve the problems with ease. Take time this summer to review and practice the following skills.
Resources:
The following resources provide opportunities to practice these skills. Search for the topics above in each of these sites.
IXL Math (focus on Grade 6 and Grade 7 sections) https://www.ixl.com/signin/culvercityms
IXL also has a section called the “diagnostic arena.” It will ask a series of questions on topics you may or may not have learned and then give you some areas that you can work on to strengthen your skills or learn something new.
Khan Academy – Try the practice quizzes and then review the instructional videos on skills that need practice. https://www.khanacademy.org/math/pre-algebra

Dear Students and Families,
Happy Spring Break!! I hope that you enjoy a relaxing and safe vacation. There is no official homework over the spring break. However, here are some suggestions if you are thinking about practicing math. I know it might be an unusual spring break, so it could be a chance to catch up on some skills from this year or last year or to learn something new! I will probably be online a bit during Spring Break, so you can check on google classroom.
Sincerely,
Ms. Vandever

All 6th graders:
IXL: Go to the section marked “Diagnostic Arena” - after answering a lot of questions, it will tell you your grade level for different areas such as numbers & operations, algebraic thinking, fractions, geometry, measurement and data and statistics. Then IXL will tell you which sections would be best for you to work on at your level.
Khan Academy is also great for review of general topics. It includes video instruction and practice questions and is FREE! https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-sixth-grade-math
Students who struggled with fractions:
The fractions sections on IXL are 6th grade I, J, K, and L. Some students would benefit by going back to the fractions sections in 4th and 5th grade to build their skills.
Acc 6 students:
It is always good to review and practice integer calculations. The IXL sections to work on are 6th grade letter N and 7th grade letter C.
Math 6 students:
IXL practice sections 6th grade letter M for integers and letter X for graphing. You will be having a test on integers and graphing after spring break. You can also practice the topic on Khan Academy. https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-sixth-grade-math/cc-6th-negative-number-topic I like Khan Academy because you can skill directly to the quiz and then if you miss a problem it will tell you which video to watch.
Math 6 students who want to go to Acc 6 next year:
You need to learn to add, subtract, multiply and divide with integers. There is a practice packet that I posted on the homework website and have emailed directly to many students. The IXL sections to work on are 6th grade letter N and 7th grade letter C. I actually think Khan Academy might be better for learning this skill because they have videos and practice problems. https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-seventh-grade-math This is the 7th grade math section and you should do the first two sections about caclulating with integers.
Review What You Have Learned:
Need a break from screen time? You could review your old math notes or homework packets.
Look at Khan Academy under 6th grade math and try the quizzes on sections that we have already studied this year like Ratios, Rates & Percentages, Arithmetic Operations, Negative Numbers, Properties of Numbers, and Geometry.
Learn Something New:
Go on Khan Academy and learn a new subject that interests you. Or try www.code.org . There are many museums and zoos and aquariums that are having digital exhibits so it might be a fun time to try that.
