Help with Learning

Active Class Practice

Your effort in class is very important. You will learn by:

  • Joining class discussions
  • Practicing math
  • Solving math problems
  • Asking questions
  • Explaining your thinking

The more you take part in class, the more you can learn.

Getting More Help

If you need more help, please ask for it. You can get help:

  • During PAWS
  • Before or after school
  • At home

It is your job to ask for help when you need it.

Classroom Expectations

Please follow these rules every day:

  1. Bring a charged Chromebook, your math notebook, and pencils or pens.
  2. Be kind, ready to learn, and focused on math.
  3. Follow directions and safety rules.

Tests and Grades

Your final math grade is based only on unit tests taken during each semester.

Test scores will be posted in Aeries. After a test is graded, you can look at your test and ask questions about your grade.

Goal Problems

You will complete Goal Problems and other math work during each unit.

These assignments do not count toward your academic grade. They help you, your parents, and your teacher see how well you understand the math you are learning.

Goal Problems can also help you study for tests.

Defenses (Test Retakes)

You may take a Defense, which is a test retake, for tests you took during the semester.

It is your job to go to PAWS to prepare for and take a Defense.

To take a Defense, you must:

  • Complete the Defense Prep assignment.
  • Complete all homework for that unit.
  • Attend PAWS to prepare and take the Defense.

Your Defense score will replace your original test score.

Homework

Homework is usually given each week.

Homework gives you a chance to practice the math you are learning. It helps you practice both math skills and math ideas.

Homework does not count toward your final academic grade. However, it does count toward your work habits grade.

You can see your homework scores in Aeries.

Aeries Parent Access

Parents and guardians can use the Aeries Parent Access Portal to check a student’s progress.

You can find the link at ccms.ccusd.org under the Parents menu.

Parents and Google Classroom

Students will have both paper and online assignments this year.

Assignments will be posted in Google Classroom.

Parents can sign up for a Guardian Email Summary. This can help parents see what assignments students have in Google Classroom.

If a parent wants to see Google Classroom the way a student sees it, the student must show it to them using the student’s school sign-in.
