Research paper:
*Parents, please ask your child about their "topic" for the upcoming research report. This is a teaching lesson, so we are going step-by-step and no due date or actual research has begun yet. At this time though, students have settled on an appropriate, manageable topic. (Some students are still struggling with this). Yesterday and today we learned about evaluating a website for credibility, accuracy and objectivity, as well as creating "key terms" to use in search engines. Next week we will begin to research and take notes which will then be turned into our first draft five paragraph essay. A rubric will be given to each student prior to writing their first draft. First drafts will then be "peer edited" after which a due date for the final draft as will be given.

**With the exception of Per. 4 (they will get the letter on Fri.) all sixth grade students were given a letter this week to bring home from the language arts teachers. We are asking for donations of a particular novel (paperback), The Lightening Thief by Rick Riordan.  We hope to obtain one for each student, which we can then keep for our future students, too. The novel is a perfect accompaniment to the students study of ancient Rome and Greece in the spring. The novel is centered around Greek Mythology, which students tend to find fascinating. Who doesn't love syperheroes and monsters!
Thank you in advance for any donations you may make to our classroom.
