Students should research one presidential candidate that is thinking of running and read about their platform. Students will then write a 4 sentence summary on the platform of that candidate. Students completed their comprehension questions for Chapter 5. If anyone did not complete the questions, they have to come by during PAWS or after-school to complete it. Students who did not complete their Unit 4 test need to come by after-school to complete it (unless other arrangements have been arranged). Students were assigned two sections of reading along with Cornell Notes. They are responsible for two sections from Chapter 8. Section one (pgs. 221-225) and Section two (pgs. 228-233). We worked on the first section today and we will continue with section two on Friday. Absent students will be responsible for the work completed in class. Notes are due on Monday, 2/4. 

Students will have a short quiz on their timeline material on Monday. They will be allowed to use their timeline and notebook notes. 

Students began a timeline project yesterday for the American Revolution. It is worth 60th points and due next Wednesday. They will have two class periods to work on it (Wednesday 1/16 and Friday 1/18). I am attaching the instructions on here.

Please make sure you read your paragraph to your parents about your family origins. You must have a parent signature on your paragraph. Your paragraphs should be in Spanish, read it to them in Spanish first to practice your Spanish, then translate it to them in English. Ask your parents if you have your origins correct and if they could add anything to your story. Remember, we are studying how indentured servants arrived into the United States. The reasons that pushed them away from Europe and the reasons that pulled them into the 13 colonies so you should have on your paper, reasons that pushed your family out of their home countries (even if its generations ago) and what pulled them in. If you have any questions, please email me.

Hi all, 

 

Sorry for not updating in awhile. My macbook battery is dead and I have had some trouble getting an open appointment at the Apple store so I haven't had a chance to update. 

 

Here are some updates: 

 

1. Students were asked to bring in an SSR book in Spanish for SLA so they can begin to read in class. Many are bringing in their books for the biliteracy seal and that is fine. Students have not had any hwk assignments for SLA or SS. 

 

2. I am looking for parent participants that would like to be part of a focus group this week for my graduate school project. Sorry for the late notice, I meant to post this last week but my computer died... 

I am working on an action research project for my master's program and my research focus is dual immersion programs at the middle school and I would like to get two parent focus groups for Tuesday and Thursday (from 3:30-4:15pm) that would like to discuss their experiences within the Spanish Immersion program so far. My focus for the focus groups would be to ask and discuss the following topics: 1. bilingual education (how do you feel about it and why you have chosen to enroll your kids in the program) 2. positive experiences you have had with the dual immersion program 3. negative experiences and 4. how you might support your child at home with Spanish language acquisition

We wrapped UNIT 1 today and students were assigned a map activity for homework. It is a short map activity of the 13 colonies and it must be colored. The rubric is on the back of the map and the assignment will count as a project grade!

Hi all, 

 

So I have a couple of updates about this week so bare with me! 

 

1. Monday: Students began to read different perspectives on C. Columbus, it was due today and I checked it and the scores have been updated. 

 

2. Wednesday: I took the day off to take care of my mother who had surgery (full knee replacement surgery) two weeks ago. For the remainder of the month I will be taking a personal necessity day per week to care after her. My siblings and I are alternating days to care after her. I will be planning for these absences and our curriculum will continue during those days. Students are expected to behave and complete work as if I was in class, regardless. This week, Wednesday worked best for me to take care of her but the day could switch during the weeks to come. I will always notify my students ahead of time.  

 

3. Friday: Students took a school wide benchmark for SS8. I will be putting in those scores on Aeries as an exit slip. Students glued a lot of their work for this week on their notebooks, so I asked them to bring it back on Monday to continue with working with their notebooks for a map activity. 

 

4. Monday 10/15: I will be taking a half day to plan with Ms. Miguez' substitute so the students will have to complete their work without my absence. They will be completing a map on the Colombian Exchange and some questions to go with it. Please bring interactive notebook, colored pencils or pens, scissors and glue sticks.

Today in class we began reading different perspectives on Christopher Columbus. For homework, students should read all 4 sources on the packet and complete steps #1-5 from their Habits of Document Analysis. Then they are to complete the questions on the last page on a separate sheet of paper (page 11 of their interactive notebook). It will be due on Friday. I am attaching both forms on here.

Today (10/05) for SS, we read through the entries of C. Columbus and fully annotated the text in class. Students then identified the main idea from his dairy entries w/ evidence from the text. For homework, if they have not finished their writing assignment (many were completed in class), please have them continue working at home. It is due Monday.

Today in class (10/3), we began to read a primary source on the encounter of C. Columbus and the natives. We will continue to read his diary entries on Friday. I asked students that for homework to skim through the reading and circle words they don't understand in blue ink and to look up the terms and write down the definitions on the reading. When we return we will continue to annotate the article and discuss our findings. I am attaching the reading (1st page only).
