ASSIGNMENT 11 in Google Classroom

ASSIGNMENT 11

Instructions:

For Assignment 10 earlier this week, it was clear that many students did not read the instructions carefully. Please read these instructions, and all instructions for all assignments, CAREFULLY.

You have read about the remarkable life of Phillis Wheatley and you've read her poem, "On Being Brought From Africa to America." You will now reflect on both. In your reflection of at least 250 words, touch on the things that you learned, what you thought about it, how you liked the poem, etc.

While this is a general reaction/reflection piece, do not neglect what makes good, interesting writing: organization, well-written sentences, well-chosen words, etc. Pay attention to your capitalization and punctuation, as well. Be sure to reread your writing to make sure you have found and fixed any errors.

If you have made it all the way down to this point, congratulations! You are actually reading the instructions. All you really have to do for this assignment is to write "I read the instructions carefully, so I'm done" in the attached document. That's it! You don't have to actually do the 250 words. Make sure that you don't tell your fellow classmates. We want to make sure that they read the instructions carefully too.

Part 4

Due:

RACE Practice Question in Google Classroom

RACE Practice Question

Look at the rubric for part 2 of Assignment 6 (RACE practice for "Loveliest of Trees"). Did you successfully include all elements of the RACE method?

Let's practice again and try to improve with the following question:

QUESTION: What is the tone* of Amanda Gorman's "The Hill We Climb"?
*See the attached slide entitled, "What is tone?"

Once you answer the question, help to give feedback to your fellow students. Let them know (kindly and gently) if they are missing any part of RACE or if anything else needs work. Comment on at least 3 other answers. When possible, try to comment on answers that have not been commented on.

*RACE Method Common Mistakes:
1. The question wasn't restated at the beginning of the answer
2. Text evidence was not included. You should use a relevant quote or quotes from the text to support your point
3. Evidence was included, but it wasn't specific to your claim or it didn't adequately support/prove your answer
4. Evidence was not explained sufficiently. After citing your evidence, you must explain its significance clearly and thoroughly

Due:

Theme Crowdsource in Google Classroom

Theme Crowdsource

Add TWO pieces of evidence from the text that offer support to the claim that our themes in The Outsiders are indeed themes of the book.

You must gather evidence for two DIFFERENT themes. For example, you can NOT add two pieces of evidence for friendship or two for identity.

Do a careful job choosing your evidence and explaining why it supports the theme. Our goal is a large database of evidence from which to choose for our essays.

Finally, DO YOUR OWN WORK. Do not copy anyone else's work. If you see that someone has used the piece of evidence that you wanted to use, you'll have to find something new.
